Corel Draw | Comparison between Extrude Tool & Block Shadow Tool

As we all know, Corel Draw had been released its newest version 2018 in 10 April 2018. One of the new feature that attract me is Block shadow tool. According to Corel Discovery Center, this new feature is similar to the Extrude tool but simplified, greatly reducing the number of lines and nodes in shadows.

Since my workflow involve Extrude Tool a lot, its interested to see how similar but simplified are Block Shadow Tool compare to Extrude tool.

So, below are the video i made, by using Extrude Tool and Block Shadow to make a very simple effect result.

As you can see, this is indeed a very simple effect. However, the time different use between Extrude Tool and Block Shadow Tool are huge. If Block Shadow can save so much time even for this simple effect, you can imagine for more complex effect.

I think what makes the different are because when we apply Extrude tool to the object, the surface of the object will change color to a brighter one than original, thus we have to copy another same object and put it in front of the original object.

Also, after we do extrude effect, the size of the object will change a bit, so we have to manually adjust the size.

Third reason are if there are multiple object that lay closely to each other that need to be apply extrude effect, we have to do it one by one. If we choose to apply extrude all together, since they lay closely to each other, they may overlay.

This three reason are the weakness of Extrude Tool that been resolve perfectly by Block Shadow Tool.

Overall, i quite pleased of this new Block Shadow Tool. This is indeed a tool that can save me a lot of time.
